The stamping dies for side outer panels are
the most complicated ones andrequire the longest
construction time, so that the development
time of a new product is highly dependent
on how fast those dies are made.
Recently the dies for a side outer panel have
been manufactured in 8.5 months, which was
one half of the previous results. A cross-functional
team organized at the tooling center successfully
carried out this challenging project.

| The overall die construction process
was carefully studied and improved by the
team members, so that concurrent engineering
was possible in its highest level. The best
practice was then found and applied to each
step of the process. The new process is now
standardized and applied to every project. |

The side outer panels for any
type of vehicle are produced by no more than
four operations. In fact, the second die shop
is dedicated to the side outer panel dies,
installed with the newest machine tools and
tryout presses. The capacity is large enough
to construct eight types of side outer dies
simultaneously. |
